Just starting to plan a 5 day trip. Flying in and out of Lisbon and considering limiting travel to Lisbon/SIntra. I would like a local feel so am considering staying in Sintra at Air BNB type accommodations. Thought and suggestions please.

Do your 5 days includes arrival and departure days ? If so I would base in Lisbon, with days for...
1) old Lisbon
2) Belem & Cascais
3) Sintra

I agree with the previous poster. With only 5 days, I would definitely stay in Lisbon. You can easily make a day trip to Sintra but Lisbon has so much more to do (and I like it much better) than Sintra.

Thank you for your input. We probably will arrive on July 18 and depart on July 23. I would like to visit a beach for an afternoon and a smaller village as well. Is there a village worth visiting that is accessible by public transportation?

If you want to visit a beach for a day, the commuter train line from Cais do Sodre in Lisbon works well. From there you could go to Carcavelos (big beach but no real village to visit) or come all the way out to Cascais. It's the last stop on the line and takes about 40 minutes. There are 3-4 small beaches here and the village part of town is quite charming (I think).
