Staying in the Douro valley

We will be traveling in Portugal in September, and wanting to stay in the Douro Valley for a few nights. Would appreciate any recommendations of lovely places to stay. Thanks so much!

We will be there in a few weeks. Quinta do Tedo was recommended to me. There has been some recent discussion in this forum about places to stay/visit in the Douro Valley. Look under Portugal or use the Search at the top of the page. Another source I'm using, has been the Travel Portugal group on Facebook. It does have more people in the group, and people tend to get a lot of responses and help.

I’ve stayed at Quinta de la Rosa twice and really like it. It’s right outside of Pinhão so easy to access on the train. The views, rooms, restaurant, etc. are all great.

We stayed at Casa Cimieria just outside of Pinhao and every expectation was exceeded! It is an authentic family Quinta (40 hctrs) of only 5 or 6 rooms. Miguel is a host extrordinare making everyone feel truly welcome and poured some of the most delicious port as well as ‘table wine’ One of the main highlights was dinner. All the guests (who choose to participate) sit around a big dining room table together for quite a feast that Miguel and staff have cooked. We dined with lovely folks from Canada, Germany, France, Belgium and Czech Republic. Truly a memorable time! Oh, and more port after dinner! The view of the river and valley from this little village of Valenca do Duoro high up in the hills where the Quinta sits was absolutely breathtaking. If you are fortunate enough to snag a reservation dont hesitate.
