Which town do you prefer? We want to be able to swim and have some beach time, enjoy nice restaurants, and do some hikes.

I enjoyed Lagos. No high rises. Old town area, plenty of beaches and hiking trails. Plenty of apartments, B&Bs and hotels to choose from. From Porto mos beach area you can walk to lighthouse in one direction and the town of Luz in the other direction. Many restaurants in the area.

We stayed in Lagos for a week last October near the Lidl Lagos food store. The walk to town was about 20-25 min though blocks and blocks and blocks of hirise condos! The only good thing was easy access to N125 or M537 for exploring, hiking, etc. I would look elsewhere to stay next time. Lagos in summer would be great for beaches but based on what we saw must be terribly crowded with all those condos full.

Carvoeiro is small and less touristy.
