Spending Christmas in Lisbon with my 21 y.o. son

Hi everybody!

My son and I will be arriving in Lisbon on December 22 and departing on the 30th, and it is our first time there, so here are a few questions:

  1. We are staying in the Alfama disctrict - from the airport, what is the best way via public transport to get there?
  2. Also, for public transport, can we get a weekly pass? And where can we get it?
  3. For Christmas dinner, what restaurants do you recommend? I read that most Portugese restaurants close on Christmas Eve and Day.
  4. Is it safe to walk around in the evening in the Baixa/Alfama?Alto districts in December?

Thank you in advance for your help!

To Alfama, it’s best to take a taxi or Uber. The metro doesn’t go up into Alfama.

For public transport, there is no weekly pass. Get a via Viagem card (zapping card). You put an amount on it and every time you use it , the amount is taken off your total.

The large hotels will open Christmas Day and Eve. I’ve heard some of the Asian and Indian places are open. A lot of places are open for lunch on Christmas Eve, but not dinner.

Portugal is consistently listed in the top ten safest countries in the world. It’s always safe to walk around in the areas you mention.
