We have 6 days/7 nights in Portugal in April flying into Lisbon and out of Porto. Undecided if we should do 4 nights Lisbon/3 Porto (and day trip Sinatra from Lisbon) or perhaps 3 nights Lisbon/ 1-2 nights Cascais/Sintra and remainder 2-3 nights Porto? We will return on a future trip to do other areas of Portugal.
Thank you Geoff. We are coming from elsewhere in Europe so won’t have jet lag tiredness. That being said we like a relaxed schedule when traveling to absorb the vibe of the area.
Did you consider any Douro day trips from Porto?
We had a similar time frame in November and added a night in Coimbra so had three days in both Lisbon and Porto. As Lisbon is the bigger city, there may be more to do there and so I'd give it the extra day since you could do a day trip to Sintra and another to Evora. I wouldn't make Sintra an overnight stay.
Thank you, based on all the great feedback we are doing 4 nights Lisbon, 3 Porto. Can’t wait!
We are touring Portugal on our own after our Rick Steves' Best of Spain tour ends in early May. We are staying 3 nights in Lisbon and 3 in Porto. In Lisbon, I have arranged a Get Your Guide trip to Sintra, Pena, Regaleira & Cascais. We were very happy with this company when we used them in Switzerland. In Porto, we plan to take the train through the Douro Valley, hopefully one where we can take photos through opened windows. We will either take a boat ride back to Porto or round trip by train. The remaining days in both cities, we will tour on our own and likely follow Rick's audio guides. My biggest concern is our 5 am flight out of Porto, but other connections appeared to be too risky.
Sounds like our trips are going to be very similar (minus the way too early flight!). We like Get Your Guide also- had a wonderful experience in Paris last May.
