Hello all, my family of five will be taking a day trip to Sintra from Lisbon on a Sunday in April. We plan to visit the above two sites. Should I purchase tickets in advance? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Each person has their own preferences and style.
So this is just one recommendation:
- You do not need to go inside the interior of the palace. The grounds ticket allows to to visit all those colorful terraces, cafeteria, chapel, bridge over entrance arches, the beautiful view to the Atlantic etc
This eliminates stressful part of timed ticket.
So, half price grounds ticket us sufficient
You cannot buy them from official site in advance but there some private vendor selling them
Unless you are arriving in pral season, you can just buy it from the machine on the arrival along with the green bus to let to avoid the steep climb from the park entrance to the palace entrance
- Key thing is that with 5 people, it will be lot more efficient to Bolt/Uber everywhere. Dire t from your hotel to Pena Palace entrance, from PP to upper entrance where Tix are sold (not the lower exit gate) of Regaleria and then either back to Lisbon or to Cascais or to Cabo.
