Sintra - Pena Palace and Quinta Da Regaleira Itinerary Help

Hi all,

Am planning on a day trip in Sintra for the end of August. Based on advice from previous threads here, I am planning on taking an Uber/Bolt straight from my hotel in Lisbon to the entrance of Pena Palace early in the AM, and have tickets for the Palace at 9:30. (I know lots of people say skip the interior, but I wanna see it!). I am planning on spending a few hours there, then going for lunch in town and then heading to Quinta Da Regaleira.

My question is, what is the most efficient way to get from Pena Palace back to Sintra town to then go to Quinta Da Regaleira after? I see on Google Maps its about a 35 min walk and 30 min bus from Pena back to town. I don't really want to be wasting a lot of time walking though, and would like to spend more time at the sites. What did you do when you went? And how easy is the walk?

Also how much is the bus?

We went twice. The first day we took the bus back and that was easy. The second day we decided to walk back and ended up spending some time trying to find the best trail down. We think that we were on the main trail down but there was a fair amount of scrambling over rocks so maybe not. We had plenty of time so it wasn’t a problem but would have been frustrating otherwise.

How about 4-5 euro Bolt back to run from the main entrance of the Pena Park?

Walking energy+time can be spent in walking in town or to QR (it is relatively flat) (except the walk to entrance from the exit)

Bolt drivers may or may not accept your fare. They will not purposefully drive from town all the way up to the Pena Palace for such a small fare. You have to bet on a bolt driver who happens to be dropping off and even then they will prioritize a big fare heading to Lisbon.

You can wait in line-up and take the bus but driver will pressure you to pay the full day fare €10-14 (I am not sure because I never took it).

Another alternative is that there may be local drivers waiting around the entrance to drive tourists back to Sintra for €5 per person. They are not bolt drivers, just locals who want to earn a few €'s.

We were just there a few weeks back. Took Uber up and caught a cab doing a drop off to get back to town. The walk looks pretty steep and long. There were plenty of cabs and Ubers/Bolts doing drop offs after we finished our 9:30 tour.
