For anyone arriving in the next few days or already in Portugal - all the Sintra palaces and surrounding hills are closed due to extreme fire danger.
Portugal is experiencing a heat wave unparalleled in the seven summers I’ve been here. A number of other forest areas in the Lisbon area are closed also.
If you are arriving soon or already here, find some indoor activities such as museums to spend your time as it’s going to be really miserable outside.

It seems like the heat wave is affecting other countries too.
This morning I noticed that it was 106 in Sevilla, Spain.

The situation is much improved. IPMA.pt produces a fire danger map of the entire country. Today’s looks good with no areas of extreme danger. And, I’m actually seeing rain in the forecast!
