Sintra - one-way bus to palace tip!

We just returned from our trip to Portugal, which included a day trip to Sintra. We planned to follow Rick's suggestion of taking the bus up from the train station to the palace and then walking back down via the Vila Sassetti. However, when you get off the train, be aware that the buses and ticket sellers are waiting to sell you the all day bus loop ticket for 13.30 euro. They make it seem like that is the only option. We asked one of them for a one way ticket and they said they couldn't do it. We asked another seller and they quietly told us if we wanted a one way bus ticket to go across the street to the ticket office next to the Chinese restaurant. There, we bought a one way ticket from a machine for 4.70.

That's good information. Thank you very much for sharing.

Have watched some Youtube videos on this topic and there seems to be a common complaint that the bus 434 all-day ticket is not worth it mainly because you will have to wait a long time for a return bus. Is that why you chose to buy only one-way? Have you noticed if it's indeed true that people had to wait for a long time for the bus when leaving Pena Palace?
