Sintra day trip tour

Anyone tried any of the day tours to Sintra from Lisbon that you would recommend? Is it worth the cost vs just doing it on my own?

I haven't personally done a day tour from Lisbon to Sintra, although we do list a couple in Rick's Portugal Guidebook.

Carris City Bus and Tram Tours. For more information, stop by their info trolley in the northeast corner of Praça do Comércio (tel. 966-298-558, www.carristur.pt).

Inside Lisbon: They also offer private tours and day trips by minivan to Sintra/Cascais and Obidos/Fátima. You can also organize a private city tour with them, or use their helpful website as a resource for seeing Lisbon on your own. tel. 968-412-612, www.insidelisbon.com

If you did the trip on your own, use a good guidebook as it will have all the information you'll need, including where to catch the train, buses to catch, entry costs etc. Transportation costs are small. Entrance into the palace is only about 16 euros for a combo ticket. I hope this helps some.

Hi Larry - I went to Sintra on my own via the train from Lisbon. It was very easy. Got to Sintra ..hoped on a bus waiting for people getting off the train to take them to the center of town. There we bought a tourist bus ticket that allows you to get on and off a circular one way road that the toursit sites are on. No issues. I'm sure we lost some knowledge by not taking a tour. It was also nice to do it on our own.....and gave me satisfaction doing it on our own.

I did it on my own, so I can't compare it with a tour, but I can say it was very easy (Rick's book has all the logistical help you need).

Fantastic Kayaking on Halong Bay!

On the second day of our 3 day 2 night cruise trip onboard Paradise Luxury, I had chance to kayak with my wife on Halong Bay which has been voted as one of 25 destinations in the world best for kayaking since 2000. In my own opinion, kayaking is not only a healthy sporting activity (I felt stronger and could eat a lot after the kayaking trip) but also one of the best and easiest ways to explore the magnificent caves, lagoons and World Heritage sights of Halong Bay; as well as the more unspoilt, neighboring bays of Lan Ha and Bai Tu Long.

I found kayaking on of the most attractive activities on Halong Bay where can offer many options for both the less and the more adventurous. I highly recommend sit-in kayak for your cave visiting, beach breaks and lagoon explorations. These small kayaks for 1-2 (and even 3) people are not only easy to control and great exercise but also offer a fresh and interesting perspective on the delightful scenery surrounding. With tranquil on-the-water sunsets and sunrises, your chances of wildlife sightings are good, and the eerie romance of the islands is unforgettable.

At first, my wife felt scared when sitting in a kayak amongst waters and waters. But upon my encouragement, she found kayaking in Halong Bay very safe because water here was quite calm and we were provided with all useful equipments such as: paddles, life jackets and spray kits. After just about 30 minute kayaking, she became delighted and naughty. That was so lovely!

Believe me! If you are in Halong Bay, don’t miss chance to join a kayaking trip discovering the Bay on your own way!
