We will be in Lisbon the end of Sept. and plan on taking the train to Sintra. Would it be better to go to Pena Palace in the morning and Quinta da Regaleira in the afternoon? Or vice versa? I plan to purchase our tickets in advance. Any idea how busy it is at that time of year? Thanks.

It’s busy all year! My favorite trip to Sintra was when I did a small group tour from Lisbon. Then, no worries about transport and some guidance as to how to navigate the different palaces, lunch, etc. There are many available. There are also very good private tours, if your budget will allow.

We were at Pena Palace in late September 2024 on a weekday afternoon at about 3:00 and it was pretty busy and there seemed to be constant short lines in various areas on the terraces for people with interior tickets.
