Would like to visit Sintra before starting our Portugal tour. Best suggestions on
how many days best to stay and any hotel
your recommend.
Many cover this as a day trip by train from Lisbon.
The Tivoli Palacio de Seteais is a good hotel there.
We visited Sintra last May and one day was enough.
Sintra is a lovely place. It is easy to get to on a commuter train from Lisbon. If you are staying in Lisbon, I would do it as a day trip from there. One day should be enough.
Even if you visit Sintra during low season, you will find it very touristy during the day. So, to feel the real charm of the place, I believe you should stay the night there. Palácio de Seteais is a good suggestion (very expensive to me). Places to visit: I do not like "Quinta da Regaleira", but that is just me, everyone I know finds the place very interesting. To me, the best spot in Sintra is "Convento dos Capuchos". And then of course you have the "Palácio Nacional" (National Palace, city center, love the chimneys), "Palácio da Pena" (up the hill) and the moorish castle. If you drink wine, the correct thing to drink there is Colares or Bucelas (both white, produced in the region). And if you are into pastrys, don't miss "queijadinhas" (they are sold everywhere in Sintra). One day is enough to visit Sintra, but it is not enough to feel it's magic. By the way, we don't have any "Sinatra" in Portugal, but we have Cuba (it's a small town in Alentejo).
Hi all -- I've cleaned up a substantial number of comments here that were intended to be silly but instead came off as sarcastic and unwelcoming. We really do want this forum to be welcoming to ALL travelers, even those new to traveling and those who make simply spelling mistakes (we all do at some point!). When responding, please keep in mind our first two forum guidelines:
- Stay on topic. Make your contribution relevant to the original post.
- Be polite. Comments that contain inappropriate language, harshly criticize, or disrespect others' opinions are not allowed. New travelers should be shown extra patience. If you can't write politely, move on.
Also, please remember that what you intend as sarcasm or a bit of fun can easily be misinterpreted as personal attacks over the internet.
