Shutdown

We fly out of JFK on Monday. I will monitor the situation and we could be leaving home a lot earlier than planned in order to deal with who knows what
Anyone else in the same situation?

If there is a shut down, it will indeed affect JFK so expect delays & lines. IF….

I’m hoping it doesn’t happen.

Not sure what you're talking about--is this specific to US departures? (We are flying Montreal-Lisbon next week.)

I’m sure traffic controllers are considered essential, so they will be working shutdown or not. If there is a shutdown, most everything will continue as usual since government employees will get back pay; That is, if it’s like past shutdowns.

CBP agents, TSA agents, and air traffic controllers might have to work, but they won't be getting paid, and their bills don't stop. Contractors either. Not conducive to good service. Usually results in sickouts and understaffing. Employee salaries are only part of what gets stopped.

Air traffic control officers will be there working without pay until the shutdown is resolved of course
And so will the TSA agents working under the same conditions. In past shutdowns, both have continued to work, but without, how shall I say it, enthusiasm.

That can results in bottlenecks and delays of uncertain magnitude. As we do not leave until Monday evening, we should have some preview of what we are in for.

Anyone flying out may have time on their hands to give us all a head's up
We will do the same
