Short visit to Lisbon

We have an opportunity to have a short (2 full days plus arrival day) stopover in Lisbon on our way to a river cruise in France. I really do not know much about the area. Any suggestions on what to do and where to eat? We would also like to hire a tour guide if anyone has suggestions.

Cristina Duarte and her husband (Pedro) have a local tour company (Lisbon and Beyond). Cristina is a RS tour guide. Both are highly recommended. Lisbon is fabulous!

We did a half-day city tour with Pedro last summer and he was amazing! Highly recommend him.

We spent most of a week there in early 2020, will be doing a quick 2 nights as well on out way to other places in April.

I guess for a first time, a guided tour of the city center and Bairro Alto, maybe the Alfama area would give you a nice overview.

Taking the bus or train a little ways out to the Belem area is nice, several monuments and museums as well as the Monastery.

Sintra is close, but might be a bit much for only two days, as it would take up one of those.

For food, seafood and hearty meat dishes are the main things. If you search for "Lisbon" on YouTube, you will get a number of blogs, including one by James Blick, among others, and probably the Rick Steves Lisbon video will pop up. All of these are filled with things to see and places to eat, as well as what to eat.

The airport is very well placed, public transport good, taxis cheap, Uber and Bolt cheaper; so stay right in the city center.
