We are traveling from Sevilla to Tavira in October. What's the best way to get there? Can I rent a car in Tavira and drop it off in Lisbon a week later? Thanks!

I checked some random days in October and there is a 10am direct bus service from Sevilla to Tavira operated by bus company ALSA for €31.
It doesn’t look like Tavira has any major rental car companies. The Faro airport does have all the big brands and isn’t that far away.

To my knowledge, the bus is your only viable option. Car rental drop off fees from Spain to Portugal are outrageous. The long distance buses are quite nice, though.

Back in 2015, I travelled by very comfortable ALSA coach (bus) from Sevilla to Lagos. I was impressed by the service. My memory is hazy now but I believe it was about a 5 hour ride and quite affordable. I arrived in Lagos with the intention of getting the local bus to Salema but while waiting at the bus station, a couple going to the same accommodation in Salema, offered to split the cost of a taxi. One of those serendipitous moments I will cherish forever.
