Seniors discounts?

Hello all,

We’re planning a trip to Portugal in September. While researching museums and other attractions in Lisbon, I noticed that some places have senior discounts. Being a senior myself I’m curious if these discounts are available to tourists?

Thanks in advance,

Mostly, yes. Sometimes you have to be an EU citizen, or pensioner of the country, but
usually if you say you are a senior and look the part, off you go.

I spent a week in Lisbon in May 2023, the senior discount is better deal than the museum discount Lisbon card that is attached to the senior discount card. The transit part of the Lisbon card is essential for traveling in Lisbon it provides free transit on the bus, subway and trams.

If you're going to be moving around by train, remember that seniors get big discounts on fares -- up to 50% -- except on the Urbano (the most local) trains. I'm not sure if the discount is made available when booking directly with Comboios de Portugal (cp.pt), but it is when booking through Omio.com. (You do pay a small service fee, but I've found Omio to be very convenient and easy to use. No vested interest; just sharing my experience.)

Michel,
We used CP and they offered the senior discount. If taking the train, I strongly recommend you book directly through them. Download the app.
