Seeking Connections Advice

Hi! We are planning on finishing our Spain/Portugal trip with eight to nine nights in Portugal in early October, coming from Seville Spain. We plan on three nights in Porto and five to six nights in Lisbon. We are trying to strategize our most efficient route between Seville, Porto, and Lisbon. Our preference is to end up flying home to California from Lisbon. There is only one, one hour early am flight from Seville to Porto by TAPA. It appears all other flights take anywhere from 5 to 7 hours. Our other alternative is to fly from Seville to Lisbon, then train up to Porto, stay three nights, then train back to Lisbon. That is a lot of transit time. Flying home from Porto is a possibility, but I am guessing it still would connect through Lisbon. A Lisbon departure to home would be better, given the additional time we have in Lisbon. Any thoughts?

Second question: Once in Porto, can we train down to Coimbra or Obidos, get off for a few hours to visit, and then take a later train into Lisbon? Otherwise, is a day trip to Obidos from Lisbon more realistic?

Thanks!

Taking the one direct flight from Sevilla to Porto is your best bet. While the train from Lisbon to Porto is easy, there is no reason to spend the extra time. TAP is a good airline these days with much preferable service to Ryanair, etc. I would fly home from Lisbon but, depending on airline, you may end up going to Madrid before flying to the States.

Taking the train to Coimbra is very easy while Óbidos is not. The train website in Portugal is cp.pt
From what I can see on the site, a train to Óbidos would include two changes and take from 3 and a half to 4 and a half hours. It would be very doable to take a day trip to Óbidos from Lisbon. There are a number of tour companies that do a day trip, but all the ones I saw include Fatima, Nazaré and possibly another town.

There is a rapid bus from Campo Grande in Lisbon that is 7€ each way that would be your best bet.
Lastly, when I researched luggage storage in Coimbra a couple of years ago, there was none. And in a quick search today, I still didn't find any. So it looks like a day trip to Óbidos from Lisbon by bus might be your easiest option.
