Schist Villages

Hello Travel friends!
Can anyone tell me about visiting the Schist Villages? We will be coming from Castelo Rodrigo and would live to make a stop in Evora before flying out from Lisbon. We could have 2 nights to spare...the Schist Villages look interesting. We enjoy walking and easy hikes. What is the best way to explore them? Where should we stay?

Thank you!

Take a look at 9/30/17 post. I was looking at pics from a castle, it is a lovely area. We took in the Jewish quarters and museum in the small town. Tourist offices are suppose to have maps of hikes. I dropped my searches but was able to find sites for hiking. People bird identify in this area. Me, I can barely identify a sparrow.

Hello Lori,

I'm from Portugal and one village you should visit is Piódão - it's an historic schist village and great for hiking. From there you can go on the easy Piódão - Foz d'Égua - Piódão walking route - it's wonderful!
Another schist village you could visit is Cerdeira - also beautiful and peaceful... a lovely place ;)

Enjoy!

Thank you! I actually did find some information and booked an airbnb property in Talasnal. It was a convenient stop between Lisbon and Porto and it looks like we can get some hiking in. If we have time we will explore some of the areas you suggest as well.
