São Jorge Castle Tickets

For those who have been to Portugal, is the guided tour worth doing or should we buy audio guide or just entry tickets. We read in the RS guidebook that there is not much to see inside the castle itself. If we had to choose between this and other sites how would you prioritize? Thanks!

There isn't much to see inside the castle itself. I was there this morning, it's very compact and there is a very limited museum in the grounds. I suspect that most people would be done in less than an hour judging by the number of people walking straight past the museum displays without even bothering to look.

Not my favorite site in Lisbon, but enjoyable enough. Good views. We used the RS guidebook for visiting the area. We purchased the tickets when we arrived, using their public wifi on my phone. Right next to ALL the people waiting in line. If you go there, there is an elevator (part of the city transportation), so you don't have to walk all the way up the hill.

I loved the castle so much I went 3 times during my trip last year. Ok, it was more the peacocks that I loved, but they were in the castle complex. Great views up there too.

You definitely don’t need a tour. Buy your tickets before you leave home so you don’t waste time waiting in line to purchase them onsite. I believe they’re good for 90 days.

You don't have to buy your tickets online before you go. The ticket office was closed yesterday due to a strike however there were signs displaying a QR code that enabled you to purchase tickets. That way you can decide whether you want to visit once you're in Lisbon.
