Hello,
Is it possible to rent a bike at Sete Cidades for just the day or a few hours? Can you pay with a credit card? I see a lot of opportunities for guided tours, but we'd prefer to do adventure on our own.
We'd appreciate any advice on where it is great to snorkel. If a boat is necessary, we'd appreciate some guidance.

I just sent you the link to my Azores guide.
I have never seen a bike rental at Sete Cidades. Better to check with your hotel for an option. You would need a rental car and a bike rack as well, unless you are staying in the Sete Cidades area. One of the website links in my guide may have options as well.
I think the best spot for snorkeling is at Caloura. There are numerous beaches in Sao Miguel to choose from. I list many, but not all.
You can go on a tour in a boat, but most (if not all) are for scuba diving.
