Republic Day (October 5)

Turns out of the 9 days we'll be in Portugal, one of them occurs on Republic Day (Oct 5th). We'll be in Lisbon or Sintra at that time. Can someone advise if things would be closed on those days? I'm still working on a day-to-day itinerary so not sure what we're doing yet. I've only planned out the first day, our day of arrival. Thanks!

The only things closed will be banks and public offices. Republic day is considered a bank holiday and everything you would want to do will be open as usual.

@kathrynj, thank you for letting me know! It's great to know that most of the things that tourists are interested in would be open. I was worried that this might be the day we have to do most things outdoors.

I can confirm that I went to the National Tile Museum last year on Republic Day.

If you will still be there on October 8th, that's the 2023 Sunday of the Lisbon Marathon. The area around Praca de Comercio had enormous screen TVs set up to show the race. There were stands and bands at Restauradores Square. I was up in the Baixa during the race and it was pretty quiet.
