We would like to spend about one week in Porto. We would like to be in the middle of everything as we will not have a car.
Advice please for neighborhood names etc. Many thanks.
I can’t comment on any specific apartment but you might take a look at Booking.com for reliable reviews that would meet your needs. We were on a tour in Porto a number of years ago. Very walkable city. Any plans for day trips by train or bus? https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwj58KD2hYn9AhXpKzQIHbN7AoQQFnoECCwQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.booking.com%2Fapartments%2Fcity%2Fpt%2Fporto.html&usg=AOvVaw2bznm4Z7IAubuKObPF0Htj

I like the Rua dos Flores area. I’ve stayed in that area a few times and it’s close to lots of restaurants, public transport, etc. And it’s relatively flat. The other area that would be good is the Rebeira area along the river. The only downside of this area is the very large hill to ascend and descend getting to and from. But, there is a funicular you can use. The area around the Se would also be good but more hills to climb.
Thank you both for your recommendations. We will definitely look into them. We did see an apartment that looked like a possibility along the river. Will also check out the Rua Flores area as well. Am liking that its flat!.
Another question: Given the time of year, beginning of March, are there any vineyard tours worth the effort? any operators?
Thank you.
Any of the multitude of day tours into the Douro that operate out of Porto will include a couple of wineries with short tours and tasting. The port houses in Gaia (across the river in Porto) will be open and doing tastings. If you are spending more time in the Douro, I’m guessing most of the Quinta’s do their tours and tastings year round.
We used Airbnb to book an apartment for one week in May in Porto's Sao Bento area. (Also, our friends booked their apartment in the Fountainhas neighborhood near Jardim de São Lázaro. I understand it's near a Pingo Doce supermarket, laundromat, restaurants, etc. and walking distance to the historic / tourist areas.)
