I will be traveling in Portugal for 2 weeks and plan to rent a car at the Lisbon airport. Is it best to reserve ahead of time and what about buying the collision insurance coverage. I looked on line and the insurance company is in the US. I’m unsure of what to do. Thank you
Certainly book ahead of time.
Following on from another post, consider whether you are happy to have an electric car - that poster had difficulty finding charging stations.
As far as CDW goes, I'm in the UK and we can buy standalone policies for this which is cheaper than that included with the rental insurance. I don't know if this is available in the US, but I do know that some US credit cards includes it.
We started renting cars through booking.com. We rented one September 2024 in Porto and returned it in Lisbon. They have a complete insurance package. Check it out for yourself.
I would check on car rentals with AutoEurope.com which is highly recommended on this forum. Never show up without a reservation!
If you put your entire rental on your American Express card, you can get coverage through Premium Car Rental Insurance. It provides great coverage for as little as $20 per rental. You must be enrolled in the Amex program prior to the rental.
