My spouse and I are traveling to Lisbon at the end of April and planning to rent a car for 8-10 days. Does anyone have any experience with Europcar or Guerin in Portugal? Europcar seems to have poor reviews. We are having trouble finding a company that will let us return car before 6 am for a 5 am flight home. Would love to hear your preferred car rental company, whether Budget, Avis, or one of these 2 European companies. thanks

your best bet is return day before and taxi to airport. ask you host/hostess to schedule/reserve,.
you have to deal with hours open & close for workers business hours
Do you need to obtain an IDP for driving in portugal. aaa.com/IDP for all drivers. read all rules, laws, parking about driving in portugal before you go.

I always rent with Sixt in Portugal. Have never had a problem. Always quick, good prices and great cars.

Zest is the best, imo. Compare with the others for yourself. Note that the individual companies have different terms, so read the fine print. Good luck.

Unless there is drop off area when the office is closed, return the vehicle the day before and take a cab or whatever on the morning of your flight. No agency is going to be open at the time you’d be getting to the airport and I’m not sure I’d want to be driving around an unfamiliar area looking for the rental car return, that may not be well marked, at 3am.
