Refund from Lisboa Hotel in Lisbon

Just wanted to let other travelers know that Hotel Lisboa in Lisbon stood behind their cancellation and refund policy in the wake of the Covid-19 devastation. We had to prepay our hotel for 3 nights which we had planned as a pre-tour extension for the RS Best of Andalucia tour in mid-May. Their policy stated a full payment is due when booking, but a full refund would be provided as long as cancellation occurs 7+ days prior to arrival. I cancelled our reservation on March 13 and they approved the refund right away and asked me to be patient as they were receiving many cancellations and it would take awhile. I was a bit anxious about waiting without a definite timeline, but they were polite and assured me that "Lisbon Heritage Hotels are very proud to have always honored its obligations."

They did, and we received our full refund today. Needless to say, I would not hesitate to recommend them for travelers planning to stay in Lisbon. Thank you, Rick Steves, for this hotel recommendation (and our tour refund).

We will definitely be back traveling again with RS and Portugal, hopefully soon!

On the other hand, the policy at the Grand Hotel in Porto which RS uses has a policy of deposit required, no refunds. I had 3 back to back trips just canceled. I had additional nights at 6 different hotels - this is the only one that has such a policy. I will not stay at this hotel -- hope they are content with this payment.

It seems to me a shame to tarnish the name of this helpful hotel with a negative review of a completely different hotel. Why would somebody do this? It isn't fair.

In case somebody skimmed the post directly above and didn't see that it is completely unrelated - it is, and the Lisboa is noted as the good guys.

Maybe it has to do with the user name of the negative reviewer - "hear me roar".
