I will be staying in Evora for a week for a conference in May and will have a couple free days. Would like your recommendations on any day trips I should consider taking. I read that the coastal town south of Evora is worth visiting and takes about 3 hr driving time?

If you aren't spending any time in Lisbon I would recommend that. Its only about 1.5 hours away from Evora. You are also right between Lisbon and the Algarve. If you have a car you could visit the Algarve but its about 3.5 hours away and would work even better as an over night trip. but from Evora to reach Favira or Salema is about 3.5 hours each way. Both towns Rick recommends but I personally really like the quiet coastal town on Salema.
