Howdy fellow travelers!
We are in the planning stages of our Portugal trip (mid-Feb) and would like input on what parts of town to focus on looking for hotels/BB's/Hostels in Lisbon, Coimbra, and Porto. We both enjoy walking (vs taxis) and prefer to be closer to nightlife and restaurants favored by the locals. We look at rooms as a place to park our bags and crash from a long days exploring. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
I rented an apartment (via Trivago) on Rua du Duque (near Rossio Station) for a week in October - kitchen, washing machine, sleeps four with an excellent Fado club 50 meters down the lane and a 200 meter walk to a neighborhood grocery store. Approximately $85/night with cleaning deposit....on the fourth floor - no elevator. Lisbon is hilly....uphill and downhill nearly everywhere.
Lisbon:
Baixa and Rossio are the best neighborhoods to stay in Lisbon. Both are near all the famous attractions.

Porto:
Porto has the most amazing B&B, it is the InPatio Guesthouse. Book early, it fills up. It is at a great location near the riverfront.
