Recommend a Daytrip/Tour Group for Solo folks looking to visit places such as Evora from Lisbon?

Hey everyone,

I am going to Lisbon in September with my friend and I am incredibly excited because it is the first time in years that not only have I traveled, but also taking a proper holiday. This is the first time that I can really afford to go on a group daytrip tour to a place of interest and so far, Evora really caught my attention due to the Roman Ruins (although there are plenty of other spots that I am also interested in!).

Despite going with my friend, there might be a day or two where I will be on my own to go on a solo daytrip (I am the history nerd out of the bunch) and despite looking online for group tours, as you can imagine, it can all be a bit overwhelming. With that being said, I have two questions that I am hoping if someone can provide assistance with.

  1. do group tours (ran by companies such as https://www.thecooltours.com/ ) allow solo tourists to purchase a ticket and go on a tour (I suspect with however many other folk that also signed up) or are they only for people in small groups?

  2. There are so many companies that I am a bit confused by it all! Given my position (or person interested in day trips outside of Lisbon) does anyone here have any companies they can recommend for me to check out? It's all quite dizzying so any info would be greatly appreciated! thank you!

I have done small group day tours a number of times in the last few years and never had a problem. I’ve also done one or two in Portugal.
I have also used CoolTours here in Portugal a couple of times and have been pleased with the tour, driver/guide, etc.
From Lisbon, Evora would likely be my choice, if I wanted to avoid the craziness that is Sintra.

I can’t answer your question about specific tours because I won’t be there until October, but I have taken day tours. I can’t imagine that any would refuse a solo traveler. If people are in a large group they would probably book a private tour.

I have had situations, including in Portugal, where the daytour online booking required a minimum of 2 people but by contacting the tour operator by email, I was able to sign up easily. I think that if no one else has signed up at all, they don't want to run the tour for just one person but as long as they have other participants, solo travelers are very welcome.
