Questions about train travel from Lisbon . . .

Hello.

My family and I plan to travel by train from Lisbon > Aveiro > Porto on Easter Sunday. I will be near Rossio Station and I can see trains that will work for us on the timetable, but my understanding is that you cannot book trains in advance from Rossio.

Should I book the train from Santa Apolonia or Oriente instead?

Also, does anyone have experience traveling with larger suitcases on Portuguese trains? We would be on an Alfa Pendulum or Intercidades for the bulk of the trip but might need an Urban to get from Rossio to one of the other Lisbon stations. We plan to have two carry-on sized roller bags and one significantly larger suitcase, plus some personal items.

Lastly, thoughts on whether the strike is likely to cause complications?

Thank you!

Yes, book from Santa Apolónia. It’s much smaller and easier than Oriente and is all on one floor. You would need a metro, uber or taxi - not the train from Rossio to Santa Apolónia. The long distance trains have limited space at the end of the carriage for luggage and space for small items above the seats. The commuter trains have little space for luggage. I’ve always held it in the aisle or next to me, taking up the floor of a seat ( hope that makes sense..
