Public transportation in the Algarve

We will be traveling to Portugal this Sept/Oct. We prefer using public transportation when traveling in Europe and want to do the same while in Portugal. We are planning on spending about 4-5 days in the Algarve region (not sure which towns/villages yet). We plan on staying in one place and possibly taking day trips out to other Algarve towns for an occasional change of scenery. Is public transportation a doable option in the Algarve region?

Sorry, but public transportation in the Algarve is quite limited. There are buses, at least in Lagos, but they don’t run very often. Relying on them for day trips might not even be possible. Rent a car for the few days in the Algarve.
