My husband and I are flying into Lisbon and we want to head to the Algarve for 3 nights before we start our rick steve’s tour. We were planning on taking the train from Lisbon to Lagos, but I think it might be too tricky after flying all night.
Does it make any sense to hire a private driver to drive us to Luz? (That’s where we are staying) and then we can rent a car.
Suggestions welcome.

The train really isn’t all that tricky. A private driver would be several hundred euros, I’m guessing.
You could uber to Oriente station. The metro is also available but uber might be easier. The train to Lagos requires one change but it’s so easy. You get off the train and wait on the same (and only) platform for the next train to come. There will be many other people doing the same thing. When you arrive in Lagos, you could then take an uber or taxi to Luz.
If you really want to spend the money on a private transfer, there are many companies who would likely do it. Just google private transfers Lisbon airport to get an idea of cost.
