We will be driving from Evora and would like to stop in Tomar and visit the Knights Templar sites. We are looking for a guide who is based in Tomar who could meet us there and show us around for a few hours. Most tours I find include transportation, but we just need a 2-3hr. walking tour. Thanks in advance!
Did you locate a tour guide in Tomar, and if so, would you recommend them? We will be staying two nights in Tomar and, like you, would like to find a local guide for the Knights Templar sites and other notable sights.
In case you do not find a guide, I will note that I found the RS guidebook chapter on Tomar very helpful and sufficient for my needs for a day in Tomar. Without the guidebook, I would have missed many things of interest in the Convento (Knights Templar) site because there were no English audio guides available at the time I visited in 2019.
we were in Tomar last October. We took a tuk-tuk tour with a lovely woman from the town. She did include a few other sites on the tour, such as the Matchbook Museum Rick mentions, But, I am sure you could hire her just for the Knights Templar sites. She did include a Knights Templar church which was in town. The website is tuklovers.com. Her name was Catarina.
Yes, we did find a guide to meet us when we arrived in Tomar. I booked him through Tours By Locals and his name is Miguel R. on the website. He did give us his WhatsApp: +351 910278274, so you could try to reach him that way. This is a review from one in my group:
He was great. One of the cool things about the castle is the architecture that covered three major periods/styles. Miguel was VERY knowledgeable (teacher and getting a PhD) so he made the tour super interesting and we learned a ton. Highly recommend him.
