Prior to Lisbon?

We are booked for the RS Portugal tour next October. The tour starts on a Wednesday so we will fly in the Saturday prior and we are looking for a place to chill out and adjust to the time change prior to the tour starting. This tends to be our standard MO whether we take a tour or not. In the past we’ve gone to Bellagio prior to the Adriatic tour, Paris prior to the eastern France tour, Llafranc prior to the Sicily tour, etc.

I was thinking the Algarve, but I don’t see a lot of positive commentary here about that area. Would appreciate any advice on where to find ourselves for a few days prior to the Portugal tour.

The Algarve is actually pleasant, especially in September. Or if you want to stay closer to Lisbon, you could unwind in Sintra, Cascais, Ericeira (great little coastal town)...

Ericeira looks absolutely lovely! Perhaps we should add one or two nights and then we could do Ericeira and Sintra both prior to the tour. Preferable to somewhere in the Algarve?

To answer the question in your follow up post - yes! Ericeira and, to a lesser degree IMO, Sintra would be better than the Algarve. Public transport is not as good to Ericeira, but it’s a lovely seaside town that doesn’t have the tourist hordes of Sintra. I’m also guessing Sintra is more likely to be on your tour than Ericeira.
