Any suggestions for travel around Lisbon prior to our 12 day Heart of Portugal tour?

I suggest a day trip to Sintra. Easily reached via rail (Rossio Train Station), the highlights of Sintra are Pena Palace and Park, Moorish Castle and Quinta de Regaleira. The area is delightful, a short train trip and a day well spent.

You can take a direct train from the Lisboa Oriente station to Sintra (1h) for the day.

We took a tour to Sintra and Cascais with this company https://yourfriendinlisbon.com/.More expensive than do it yourself by train but what a great day! Had a driver, a private guide, stopped for a great lunch by the sea. (Not sure they still offer this it was 2017). We used another day for a culinary tour in Lisbon with Culinary Backstreets. Did that on the day our tour began and just made it to our first meeting!

We arrived a couple days before the Portugal tour in 2017. We did a day trip to Sintra & Cascais with Lisbon Riders. It was an excellent tour. There were six of us. The guide was engaging, & knowledgeable. It was a great introduction to Portugal. www.lisbonriders.com
