Portugal trip with a stay in Cadiz

Hi,

My husband and I are working on an itinerary for next April for a 15 day trip in Portugal with a stay in Cadiz.

This is what we are working with:

Arrive in Lisbon and drive to Evora, stay for 3 nights.
Evora to Cadiz, stay for 3 nights
Cadiz to Huelva, stay 2 nights
Huelva to Lagos, stay 6 nights
Lagos to Lisbon, stay 1 night at an airport hotel for departure the next day

Does that look like a logical trip? The only part we are concerned about is the backtracking between Cadiz and Huelva. We have been to Seville and Lisbon weren't looking to add those to this trip. Do you have any suggestions regarding that leg of the trip?

Thanks for your help!

You can make the trip without most of the backtracking. From Evora head over the Jerez de Los Caballeros, then southeast over to the E-803, then south and skirt Sevilla before heading to Cadiz. On the return, go from Cádiz up to Sevilla and then head west to Huelva. No matter how you do it, you’ll need to pass close to Sevilla and there’s no easy way to get around the Sevilla-Cádiz backtracking. On the Cádiz-Huelva leg, consider a stop in El Rocío in the national park.

The drive from Evora will be an easy one with probably very little traffic except near Sevilla. It will take about 4.5 hours without stops.

Another possible route would be to head to Jerez de Los Caballeros, then over to Zafra to spend a night. That way you could stop and see those two towns rather than just driving past. The extra night could come from the Lagos part of the trip.

Thank you, jaimeelsabio for the suggested directions. All of that makes perfect sense.

We were originally worried that 6 nights in Lagos would be too much as we are not beach people. But it looks like there are plenty of day trips that we can take.

Should anyone have recommendations for day trips, we love some suggestions!

Thanks!
