Lisbon 5 or 6 nights.
Tomar/Obidos/Nazare 0-2 nights
Algarve 3-5 nights Lagos vs Tavira for couple in mid 50s.
Is the Algarve worth 3-5 days, we prefer to set up shop in apt etc and not move locations a ton.
Looking for recommendations if this seems reasonable trip for the time we have to be in Portugal. Thanks.
When is this trip?
I have been to the Algarve numerous times as it’s my default beach destination, but unless you want beach time or to play golf, I would focus on the area between Lisbon and Porto for your trip - there are some good beaches on the Silver Coast.
If it has to be the Algarve, I prefer Tavira to Lagos as it’s been less over developed. It also gives you access to Spain for a day trip. It’s less windy at the eastern end of the Algarve too and although the sea is cold everywhere, it’s less cold in the east.
As Jennifer said, it depends mostly on your interests and your travel dates. I will add that there is so much to see and do that 16 days between Lisbon and Porto can easily be filled.
We live on a beach island in South Georgia and I always am amazed that people pay lots of airfare bucks to visit beaches in Europe.
Why go to the beach in Europe when there is so much history, art and culture to see?
I have been to Portugal twice and love it, especially Porto and the Douro Valley.
