Portugal's US Embassy COVID rule(s) -- Contradictions and confusion

Has anyone been to this link? https://pt.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information/ Upon reading all information carefully, one would scroll down to the Covid Testing requirements chart and open this link: https://travel.sef.pt/Forms/Default.aspx (required that travelers fill this out) and at the top of that page it reads:

ARE YOU TRAVELLING TO PORTUGAL?
REGISTER YOUR DATA HERE
PROPHYLACTIC ISOLATION FOR 14 DAYS IS MANDATORY

It contradicts other information on the initial link (I realize). It's quite confusing and my concern about Monday's (Aug 30) decision regarding the US and EU countries might include a quarantine for US travelers to Portugal. We have to decide no less than 24 hours before a Tuesday flight whether to postpone a flight out this Tuesday.

I see your confusion! However, the SEF site is not what I see in practice. There seem to be a fairly sizable number of American tourists here in Cascais this month!

Of course, everything could change when the meeting today occurs. There is every indication travelers from the US without EU residency or passport will not be allowed to enter. However, this may happen for the rest of the EU and not for Portugal. The government seems so eager to get tourism back, they have made some (IMO) unwise decisions.

Sorry to not have a definitive answer but travel is such a moving target these days! IATA is another source that seems to have up to date information. From how I read it and other sources, the quarantine is for people who test positive.

There are two English news sites I use regularly that might be useful. The Portugal News and Portugal Resident have up to date info. Good luck in these anxious times!

Kathryn. Your response was most reassuring. I so appreciate a locals’ glimpse into the current scene. If you, or any other reader, catches a travel update expected today, please give a holler here with any helpful links. So appreciated! Renee

To add to your confusion and decision making - I just read something on another forum you might need to consider.
If the other EU countries ban travelers from the US, it will likely impact flights. There would be increased likelihood of cancelled flights to and from the US due to lack of passengers. So, unless you are flying direct to Lisbon, you might want to take that into consideration. Of course, if you don’t mind being stranded here for a bit…..😉.

I didn't see anything in yesterday's newsletter, but you might want to look at the Schengen Visa info website: https://www.schengenvisainfo.com. They were the source of some particularly helpful information before our recent trip, not only for Portugal, but for the entire Schengen area. What does your airline say?

just be advised that https://www.schengenvisainfo.com is not a government website - they are commercial. May be correct and have been in the past, but no guarantee that all their info will be correct all the time...
