Air traffic controllers in Portugal have set three dates in August— the 19, 20 and 21– as days they will strike.
The labor action is expected to shut down air traffic at ten of Portugal’s airports, including Lisbon, Porto and Faro.
Yikes. I was stuck in the Frankfurt, Lufthansa strike a few weeks ago. Grateful to be safely back home.
Oh Great. One more thing to worry about. Where did you see this? I’d like to follow this as we are going into Lisbon 9/7.
Reuters and several others
I am reading they have threatened to strike.
The strike is scheduled for later this month. Obviously, if there is a settlement before then, it will be called off.
Supposedly there were talks today between the parties. I havent heard any updates though. Anyone ever been scheduled for a rick steves tour and then get delayed by a strike?
It was cancelled. At least for the time being.
That would be great if it has been resolved, but there are three press reports out just today that the strike is still on for August 19 20 and 21.
Helena, let me know if it changes. We are to land in Lisbon on 9/8.
The strike set by Portugal’s Air Traffic Controllers for August 19, 20 and 21 has indeed been called off. According to the Portugal News and other publications, agreement was reached between the two unions representing employees and ANA/VINCI, the management company for Portuguese airports.
I will, Diane, I will.
Another strike announced, afecting at least the airports of Lisbon, Faro and Porto, this time from the company Portway (assistance to passengers), on the 26th, 27th and 28th August. Sorry for the bad news. I believe (but that's just me) this one also will no happen.
Helena, I saw a report in the Daily Express updated today that the August 19, 20 and 21 is back on. Apparently the announcement last week said the parties were close to a settlement. The settlement was not finalized. The report says Portugal’s government is advising British visitors to avoid flying into or out of Portugal 8/19-21. Also a similar story in the Daily Record (UK) from August 11 and in the Irish press.
