Portugal next year with teenage boys

Hello!
We have learned to stay places longer and immerse ourselves. That said, two plus weeks in Portugal. Thinking four to five days in Lisbon, going on side trips, Sintra, etc. Then four or five days Porto, side trips. Maybe Porto rent a car and drive up into hills? Drive to Salamanca? I have been to Spain several times, love it, but never Salamanca. Likely Airbnb but would love suggestions! You helped tremendously on our trip to Italy! We just like to make sure we all enjoy. We do tours (viatar etc), we are very active, love the water and all sites, and all suggestions are appreciated and welcome. THANK YOU in advance.

I would encourage you to drive up the Douro valley or even up to Braga and/or Guimarães - instead of Salamanca. I really like Salamanca but think you can easily spend the entire time in Portugal and really get a feel for the place.
Another option would be a few days in the Silver Coast area. The beaches are nice and there several very interesting towns you can visit. The monuments at Alcobaça and Batalha might be of interest to teenagers. Óbidos, Coimbra and Tomar are also great places to visit.
