Portugal Itineriary (Draft)

So I will be in Portugal for 8 days here is my list of how the trip will work that I sent to my friend in Spain via email. However, now my friend from Spain will not be able to drive me through the country. So I need to find a way to get through the area. Which is most preferred train or bus? Can someone give me a list of how to get to from Lisbon to the South successfully via public transportation. I also made a list of places I would like to visit for each area. How could I fit all these places in 7 days? The one with the asterisk (*) are the most preferred.

So here is my idea of an itinerary:
Day 1-3: Lisbon
Day 4: Explore other areas (Such as Fuerte de Juan la Bautista and Lady Faitama)

Day 5: Arrive and explore Algarve
Day 6: Explore Lagos (Includes Beach Day)
Day 7: Explore Faro then return to Lisbon (somehow maybe late at night?)
Day 8: I return home to Florida

I cannot imagine being able to do all these things in seven days! Since some of the places in Lisbon are actually in Sintra - tick off one day for Sintra. If you see Pena palaces and Monserrat in one day, that will fill the day - with the train ride from Lisbon and back.
Making a trip to Fatima or Peniche in such a short time doesn't seem feasible to me - especially if you want to go to the Algarve. The train from Lisbon to the Algarve works well, but with only seven days, I wouldn't make that long a trip since the train to Lagos (the much preferable location) takes four plus hours. The rock formations in the Algarve are pretty spectacular but if it's really a beach you want, there are many beaches closer to Lisbon that would take an hour or less.
I understand the temptation to see as much as you can, but trying to do all of this will be just ticking things off a list - not really enjoying them IMO. One of the wonderful things about Portugal is slowing down and enjoying a glass of wine ( or 3) at a miradouro or a three hour lunch looking at the sea.
You can easily fill a week staying in the Lisbon area with day trips to Sintra, a beach close to town, Belem, etc.

Hello,
After seeing your itinerary, I suggest that you stay in Lisbon and do your day trip(s) to Sintra and Montserrat.
I took a ferry to the Christo Rei and then another ferry to the Monument of the Discoveries. It's worth the money to go up to the top of the Discoveries. Beautiful view of the map. This took all morning and most of the afternoon. Plus, there's more to see in Belem.

Sintra was a whole say affair.

Here's an idea, print out an enlarged map of Lisbon and highlight the sites you wish to visit.

Have a wonderful adventure.
Visit www.golisbon.com . Helped me figure out where some of the special places were, like the aqueduct.
