Portugal itinerary ideas - looking for fun ideas

We've booked our flights, flying into Lisbon June 23 and leaving from Lisbon July 18 (about 24 days)

We have been to Portugal once before in 1992. We did the Algarve and Lisbon. I don't care if I do or don't return to the Algarve. We are meeting a group of friends (including several Portuguese people) in Lisbon on June 26. Two days later we go to the Silver Coast (Marriot Praia D’el Rey) where to golfers will golf and I will chill and tootle around. Then we are going to Porto until July 4th. That is the end of the group trip. (Group trip is 9 days)

I'm looking for ideas for jet lagged people arriving on June 23 and needing to be back to Lisbon on June 26. And then leaving Porto on July 4 and having to be back to our flight home to Canada on July 18. We plan to do an island hop to Madeira and the Azores, which obviously could take up the whole time, but doesn't need to.

Anyone have some fun suggestions?

Hmmm, no suggestions. Usually I find these forums a little more active. Okay, I'll figure it out.

Have you considered going to Sintra on day of arrival?
My daughter and I spent our first 3 nights of our 3 week trip in Sintra, a good place to get over jet lag.

After Porto, you may want to visit Coimbra, & Tomar before heading to the Azores Islands.

Enjoy your trip!

Thank you! I was wondering about Sintra. We arrive at 9:20 AM (after a <14 hour trip), so that could work. We shouldn't be especially tired, and we wouldn't be able to book into a hotel in Lisbon anyway. Okay, I'm going to go off in that direction. Do you know the options to get from the airport to Sintra? Do we need a car? My husband has driven in Europe all his life, but we prefer trains if possible.

I like your idea for after Porto too but I will need to look at it before I ask the questions I will surely have.

Thanks!

Pricilla - you didn't need to twist my arm with your Sintra idea. I've found a VRBO for 3 nights. It has a lovely outside area and a swimming pool shared with the owners. Sounds like a great place to rest up before we meet up with our group. Thanks for your encouragement

Hi Nickelini,
It’s good to hear that you’ve decided to visit Sintra. Sounds like you found a great place!

To answer your question as to how to get to Sintra from the airport.
We took the Red line Metro to Oriente Station ( 3rd stop) then the train to Sintra. You’ll find more detailed information here: Lisbon Airport to Sintra
You may also choose to take Uber, Bolt, or a taxi.
