The first part of October is usually lovely. There is rain in the later part of the month - historically. But, with the weather patterns changing so much, it’s hard to predict. However, rains in that season are usually brief. And, the main tourist season is over, so there will be fewer crowds.

The climate in Portugal varies between north and south. It’s likely to be colder and wetter in the Minho to the north and warmer on the Algarve. I have had some glorious October days on the beach in the Algarve and in area between Lisbon and Porto but I have also had torrential rain in the Algarve at this time. The weather isn’t as reliable as say June, but it’s a good time to travel, as places will be quieter.

September and October and the best months to visit in the Iberian world. These are perfect months to visit Madeira and Porto. Great time to explore the wineries.
