Portugal in nine days

Hi everyone,

I am asking this for a friend and her family and would really appreciate your advice.

They will be taking an 11 day vacation in Portugal, including travel days, in early August, and are planing to spend the 9 full days they have in the Lisbon area so they do not have to spend time checking in and out of different hotels. They would like to spend time at beautiful beaches, see Lisbon, Sintra and visit Evora, among other sightseeing.

Should they stay in or outside Lisbon? If outside, which town should they stay in to make it easier to visit the places they want to see?

Another option I recommended was to spend a few days in Lisbon and the rest in another town outside the city.

As well, any other day trips they should consider?

Thank you so much.

To get the advice you want, it would be helpful to include more about the travelers and their interests.

Hi,

They are a family of 4 with two teenage boys, ages 17 and 19. They like time at the beach, culture, museums, good food, seeing medieval and ancient towns, and just living among the locals.

Thanks again.

My 'weigh in' is to stay in Lisbon for at least part of the time. Lisbon is a great walking city, (also) with great public transportation- my teenage daughters had a great time in town, and each of the different neighborhoods had such unique 'feels', it was like visiting a new place each area we visited. I would suggest at least 4 of the days in Lisbon.

They might consider an apartment rental in either Lisbon or Cascais. There is good public transportation from both locations. There are good beaches to the south of Lisbon, and also in the Cascas area.

Definitely stay close to the city center in Lisbon before moving to the beach. Lisbon is very walkable. Suggest visiting Evora, Sintra, Obidos and Cascas as well as Batila Cathedral.
