My husband are hoping to book an apartment in Lisbon through Home Away. We won't have a car and would like to be centrally located. We will be in Lisbon for five days but will spend one day in Sintra. We're a retired couple. What area of Lisbon would you suggest for a Home Away rental?

The center of the historic Lisbon is Rossio square. Any place within a kilometer or so of Rossio will be "centrally located". Having said that, there are many other locations in Lisbon area that are also interesting (Belem & Cascais to name just a few). As you have probably seen in many other posts, a car is more trouble than it is worth in Lisbon, and the public transportation systems are excellent.

We love Portugal and Lisbon is great. Taxi's are not expensive if you need to use them. You can walk to a lot of the sites if you are staying near the city center. However, there are sites that you might want to take a tour or taxi.
Further, if you stay close to the rail station, you can take day trips to Evora, Sintra and more.

My wife and I spent a wonderful week in Lisbon early October. We rented a flat in the Principe Real area thru AirBnB. We LOVED the area and the flat (www.airbnb.com/rooms/11655674) was spectacular.
