Portugal in February

Any suggestions for Portugal in February? We plan to spend 4 or 5 days in Lisbon upon arrival. We’d then like to rent a car and relocate to another area from which we can do day trips (another 7 - 10 days). Any suggestions? What can we expect weather wise?

Weather in February can be beautiful with 60-70 degree weather or rainy and cold (50-60 or even lower depending on where you are). Unless you are in the mountains, it won’t freeze. But, I was in Porto in February and it came close.
That said, I like the winters because there are many fewer tourists and the sunny days are gorgeous.
As far as where to go - it depends on what you want to do. The central/silver coast area has a lot of small places to visit. Coimbra, Tomar, Alcobaça, Batalha, Fatima (if you are religious), Mafra, Ericeira, Peniche, Nazaré - and the list goes on.
I would suggest looking at Julie Dawn Fox’s blog for a lot of ideas. Or, just google ‘small villages Portugal’. I’m doing a road trip in October that includes small towns like Piodao, Belmonte, Castelo Rodrigo and a few others. But, I’ve been to the bigger places that I mentioned earlier. Coming in February, you have time to do your research before making your final itinerary.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I will look at Julie’s blog and do some further research.

I have been in southern Portugal in February and it has been very wet, but it’s mild. I would focus on the area between Lisbon and Porto, including Evora.

I found Tomar to be a good base for a few nights, you can day trip to many of the places Kathryn mentioned. Then drop the car in Porto and spend a few nights there.
