I’m looking for places to stay in Tavira, Portugal and Viana do Castelo. We are a couple in our 60s and will be staying in each location for two nights. We like a private room with en suite bathroom. Local business and good value are a plus for us. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!
Well, I say this a lot. I like booking.com for research. Then if you want, you can book using booking or you can go directly to the lodging site and book directly.
Always book with free cancellation and I suggest booking with no payment necessary until at the lodging.
Hi, mccollum81, it would help if you would provide some additional information.
For example, what is your price range? And what time of year will you be there? Are you looking for a particular area of town; i.e., close to the train station, or close to major sights? Will you have a rental car or will you be relying on public transportation?
I'm going to disagree with the above poster as I usually book hotels that are non-cancellable OR cancellable within a few weeks or a month from the relevance dates because in many cases, it is much less expensive and my trip insurance will usually cover it. I'm not saying you should or shouldn't follow my policy - it's just better to look at each hotel's policies and rates and go with your instincts. :) Also look at the differences in cost. Some cancellable rates may only be a few Euros more than than a non-cancellable rate; others maybe be much more expensive.
Also, you can certainly look for hotels on booking.com - many forum posters do that here. However, unless you get some special perks for making a reservation with booking.com, it is always better to book directly with the hotel. If something goes wrong, the hotel will be in the best position to fix it, but if you've booked with a 3rd party, the hotel will not be able to help.
