Portugal from Morocco

We will be based in Faro for 6 days and will enjoy exploring the town for a couple of days but would like to take buses and trains to other places of interest. Perhaps somewhere with lovely beaches and promenades to walk along by the beach, and an inland town with interesting architecture.

All suggestions very welcome. We are assuming most restaurants and coffee shops will be open out of season. Also any thoughts on how the weather might be. Thank you in advance for your responses.

You haven’t said when you are travelling, so we can’t comment on the weather. It is decent from May onwards, but can be cooler and wet before then. It’s likely to be windy, which will take the edge off the temperatures.

Old town Faro will take a couple of hours to see, but I would base myself somewhere more interesting, such as Tavira. Sao Bras de Alportel, Silves and Loule are inland towns with local architecture, but are easiest to visit with a car, as public transport is sketchy in the Algarve.

The bigger places will be open out of season, but some smaller places will be ghost towns.
