Possibly a December visit to Lisbon, Porto to include Douro Valley and Sintra what would anyone suggest as one additional day trip someplace and what to see there. We were thinking Guiniaraes. We will not have a car so relying on train for travel.

You are probably thinking of Guimarães which is amazing and quite atmospheric. Plenty to do. Braga is close and we also found that to be an interesting town. We were in Portugal at a time with a lot of striking workers. We used the bus between Guimaraes/Braga and Portugal, and it worked well.
I think you would enjoy Guimarães
