Portugal

Can anyone give me some ideas of what places to stay in and what area.

Would like to also stay in Faro from what I have read there is not much to see.

One fundamental question: Why are you going to Portugal? The answer may shape some of your decisions. Then get some context by going to the Portugal pages on this very website: https://www.ricksteves.com/europe/portugal
There are other websites with similar use.
This is DIY territory: Nobody can make up your mind for you, or even provide worthwhile answers, until you know what the questions are -- and what the answers will mean.

When?

How long is your stay?

Your interests?

Why do you want to stay in Faro if you think there isn't anything to see?

Presumably you are flying into Faro?

We loved Portugal.

I haven't been to the far south, the Algarve, which is a beach area. We live on an island with a beach and never travel overseas to a beach.

Lisbon is an obvious choice. Also, you can visit cities like Sintra and Evora from there. Then moving up to the North to Porto, there are many places to stop and visit. Obidos, Navare, Cascais and Estoril are good. Batalha Cathedral is wonderful.

Porto is a key city in the north. A river cruise on the Douro is wonderful.

There are other cities in the north you can visit from Porto. I would include Guimaraes and Braga as well as Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

Here is what Viator offers for tours, that should tell you something
