Portugal - Easter or Not?

We are traveling to Portugal in April and can either be there over Easter (April 18-21) or not. Plan is to fly into Lisbon, spend a few days there, then take the train up to Porto. From there we are taking a week-long walking holiday that will include some small villages in the Douro Valley and elsewhere. We'd love to experience Easter in Portugal but worry that transportation will be jammed and hotels over-booked and pricey. Then again, maybe it's worth it for the experience? We are 3 women in our 60's. Any perspective much appreciated!

Easter is more crowded with tourists and, the one time I tried to book a hotel in Lisbon during that time, the prices were inflated. If you planned your walking tour to small villages around Easter, that would be best. They, likely, would be better. Portugal doesn’t have the big Semana Santa celebrations like Spain, but lots of Spaniards come to Portugal during the week before and after Easter.
